I decided to browse through some blogs at work today and stumbled across your question. So i hope you don't mind a complete strangers opinion.

humility..... well for starters you need to know what the word means and as of dictionary.com humility is:

the quality or condition of being humble; modest opinion or estimate of one's own importance, rank, etc.

—Synonyms lowliness, meekness, submissiveness.
—Antonyms pride.

That should answer what humility is, but just so you understand an example would be helping an individual with their trials and tribulations ahead of your own.

Now how do you get this "humility"? Well someone who's looking for humility in life is not going to find it. When you start looking for something external goals flood the mind and the true meaning of humility is lost in a never ending circle of causes that semi benifit an individuals life/ego.

Humility is instinctively doing the right thing. Without the praise, glory, or recognition from peers. To never be noticed for ones accomplishments and still succeed helping other individuals.

You'd merely become a shadow that that glorifies other individuals achievements.

How do you get humility?

Mmmm...how about "how do I get rid of my pride?" Maybe that's the easier way to look at it.

But to get rid of your pride, you must think in the mindset of Christ. Don't let praise get to your head, and redirect any good praise to God the Father. Only when we truly realize and live in the mindset that we essentially owe our everything to God, we'll understand that we have nothing to be proud of (except Jesus!). Everything is His anyway. I believe that will bring us to the point of living in humility. That, and diligently asking for the Spirit to give us a heart of humility, a heart that resembles that of Christ's. Only by asking for it will God know you desire it greatly. Only by His power can you ever get it.

So, if you want it, you gotta ask. Seek and you will find.

One thing though. Humility does not equal false modesty. False modesty is self-forcing to "show" you're not as good as whatever you're being compared to.

Those are my two cents.

humility (almost spelt it humidity), to me, is being able to have everything I hold dear taken from me and to still be able to praise God.

on a totally unrelated note, would anybody like to enlighten me as to how I could post real posts on here? I can't figure it out... (clearly, I don't blog) also, if I want to edit a post that I made, how do I do it? last time I just ended up copying, deleting the original comment, then pasting onto a new comment and correcting it. please tell me there's a better way.

sorry about the irrelevance to humility... I'd post it somewhere else, but seeing as how the problem is that I don't know how to do that...

Didn't Roger just speak a little about humility on Sunday?

Humility being (something along the lines of) obeying God? Something Roger-sounding :p It was something about seeing yourself the way that God sees you. Oh gosh .. bad memory kicking in now -- where are all the P&R's people? Help me out :p

humility is about agreeing with God. If God says your are something and do something, you just say yes LORD. If he tells you you are his creation and you have been made perfect, you say yes LORD.
